    Description

    STUNNING!
Clarence A. Vanderbilt 925 sterling silver, fluted tulip vase, c1920. It has a "C" monogram.  I can't even describe how breathtaking this is.  There is a small dent on the bottom of the vase but it doesn't affect the balance and it definitely doesn't detract from the beauty of this rare piece.  Honestly, if this doesn't sell, I will keep it for my daughter, whose name starts with a "C".  Otherwise, it will make a beautiful heirloom for you to pass down in your family.
Can you imagine this filled with roses from your garden?
This vase is 11" tall x 7 3/16" in diameter across the fluted rim.  Base is 4 1/8" in diameter.
    Weight 22.6 oz.
Clarence A. Vanderbilt began in the late 19th Century as a jeweler and silversmith on lower Broadway around 1891 in New York City. He was located at 110 W. 30th St from 1909 -1913.  In 1913, the business moved further west to 151-155 W. 30th St.  Later addresses were on W. 38th St (1916-1919), W 14th St (1919-1927), and E. 27th St. (1927-1935).  Vanderbilt appears in the US Census of 1920, age 50, born in New York, living at 2334 Creston Ave., Bronx, with his wife Jennie (50) and sister-in-law Frances Cornelisse (39).  Little more is known about this extremely small silversmith and his pieces are extremely rare and valuable as a result, not to mention a VERY infamous American family name.
