    Description

You are bidding on a very rare original antique engraving from an 1860s French illustrated journal.
It depicts a spaniel dog named Bob, described as a "petit epagnuel", which I believe is called a Brittany today (also called the Brittany Spaniel, Brittany Wiegref, Epagneul Breton, French Brittany).
In the 1850s, the Brittany (formerly known as Brittany Spaniel) was developed from crossing French Spaniels with English Setters. The Brittany is a breed of gun dog bred primarily for bird hunting. Although it is often referred to as a Spaniel, the breed's working characteristics are more akin to those of a pointer or setter. Brittanys were developed in the Brittany province of France between the 17th and 19th centuries, becoming officially recognized early in the 20th.
There is a 14-inch article surrounding the picture about Bob and the Brittany. It is in French, but free computer translation programs make it easy to translate.
The page measures approximately 10.4 x 7.5 inches (26.5 x 19 cm). The picture itself fills about half the page, and measures about 5.25 x 5.75 inches, with a French caption below. It is surrounded by unrelated text. The text could easily be trimmed before framing, or hidden under a window mat.
The page is in excellent condition for its age.
There is text/photos on the back of the print.
See scan for an accurate view of the condition.
This is GENUINE antique/vintage item. It is not a modern reproduction.
