    Description

Vintage Buchanans Scotch Whiskey Water Jug. Made in Scotland.
The jug stands approx. 4 3/4 inches tall and approx. 5 inches from the tip of the spout to the back rim.
The makers mark on the bottom reads - Hancock Corfield & Waller (hcw) Mitcham Made in Scotland.
There are the Buchanans black and white Scottie dogs depicted on both sides with the words 'Black & White' Scotch Whiskey "Buchanans".
Also on the spout side is a British Royal Crest and the words "By appointment to Her Majesty The Queen Scotch Whiskey Distillers James Buchanan & Co. Ltd."
The piece is old and difficult to date exactly.
The company began in 1891 and lasted until 1970. This piece is probably circa 1920 - 1930. Hard to get any specific information as the main factory made metal advertising articles and outsourced the ceramics at various periods in their history.
The condition overall is good with typical crazing.
It has an interesting blemish on the handle. It looks to have happened during the firing. It looks a bit like a drill hole. I can't think of any reason that it would have been deliberate (maybe something was meant to be attached but I doubt it). Probably a foreign object in the clay that burned off. There are tiny chips at the edges of this 'opening'. Please see the photos for detail.
I have seen these jugs with 'made in Ireland' & Great Britain but never 'made in Scotland' as this one is.
My wife and I bought this piece in Australia in 1986. We now live in Athens Georgia so this jug has been around. We are down sizing so a lot of our cool old stuff has got to go. We have enjoyed owning it.
Good luck bidding. It's a nice piece.
No Returns. The item is as pictured and described. Please ask all questions before bidding.
