Vintage Wooden White Horse “Blended Scotch Whisky” Crate from 1956 (as marked) “For Auld Lang Syne” Holiday Edition
This is a vintage wooden White Horse Scotch Whisky crate from White Horse Distillers Ltd. of Glasgow, Scotland from 1956. The crate is in great condition with clear, bright and intact printed text.
The “White Horse” logo set on a red Christmas tree appears on 2 sides of the crate as well as the phrase “For Auld Lang Syne”.
The date when the crate was made can be readily determined because it appears in the upper right-hand corner on one end of the crate, which was when the scotch was released for sale.
Most of these crates were from the late 1950’s.
All of the wood is original to the crate.
The crate sits well and is very sturdy.
Crate Restoration
Please take a good look at our crates because we are experts at restoration.
Taking these 60+ year old crates apart without destroying them is an art form that we mastered a long time ago.
We sand off all the rough surfaces, glue all the cracks and splits under pressure and carefully re-assemble the crate using new nails that are slightly wider than the rusty and bent original nails we removed to ensure stability and reliability.
We carefully remove old stains and stray writing without damaging the original printed text and graphics.
You won’t find anything like this on eBay and I would love for you to look at what else is being offered so you can appreciate what we do to these crates to enhance their appearance and give them the solid feel and stability they deserve.
For this create, we performed these steps:

Careful disassembly of the entire crate
•
Sanding of the bottom panels on both sides
•
Sanding of all 4
inside
panels
•
If some light sanding was done to the printed side it was to carefully remove unwanted marks, stains and writing without damaging the printed text & graphics
•
Reassembling the crate with new nails as the original nails were quite rusty and loose
Note:
sometimes we choose not to use the original nail hole if it would compromise or weaken the wood in any way.
Often the nail in the original hole caused the wood to split, which we will repair, so we avoid placing a new nail in a hole where we know it was weakened or will split the wood again.
